AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals (SC) provides a wide range of high quality and sustainable ingredients that are integral to numerous key industrial processes worldwide. SC’s Industrial Chemicals (IC) business unit produces world-class salt products, chlor-alkali products, chlorinated hydrocarbons (such as MCA), energy and DME. IC is mainly located in the Netherlands and Germany, however it has a global presence with plants and joint ventures also in Denmark, Sweden, Spain, China and Japan.
Key to the ongoing success of IC is continuous improvement by applying Lean Six Sigma (L6S). We enable our employees to imagine and implement innovative ways of working and serving our customers. Within this context, your mission is to further develop this environment by acting as a L6S Black Belt Project Lead.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Project Manager
The role and its responsibilities
Your core responsibility will be to lead, inspire and work with teams of subject matter experts in order to drive improvements. In this hands-on role you will interact with, and influence, all levels of our organization – from the shop floor to the boardroom. As such, this is an exciting opportunity for someone who can encourage others to excel. It is also a role in which team dynamics, a constantly changing work environment, and a wide variety project topics (from technical projects on site to projects improving business processes in e.g. HR) combine to create an excellent opportunity to develop yourself both personally and professionally.
You will act as a valued part of a central team of 15 L6S Black Belts, located in Amsterdam, reporting into the Master Black Belt. The central team facilitates your development into the role, by focusing on knowledge sharing. To further ensure that you are fully prepared to succeed, you will embark an extensive Black Belt training and certification program. This includes the execution of important manufacturing or business projects that benefit the overall performance of the company and playing an active role in promoting the continuous improvement mindset within the organization.
To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:
- A Masters qualification, preferably in a ‘technical’ direction such as Engineering, Masters of Business Administration (Technical) or equivalent;
- Between three and eight years of relevant working experience, experience within manufacturing is an advantage;
- An appetite to work with- and make decisions based on data;
- Continuous improvement mindset, affinity with Lean Six Sigma is an advantage
- Willing and able to travel;
- A high standard of written and spoken English, with German as an advantage.
