A rewarding challenge for an experienced and expert turnarounds manager
AkzoNobel’s Industrial Chemicals (IC) business unit (BU) produces and markets high purity salt, chlorine, caustic lye, hydrochloric acid, chloromethanes and monochloroacetic acid (MCA). These products are essential to daily life and used in the manufacture of vehicles, glass, performance plastics, pharmaceuticals, feed and foodstuffs, textiles and disinfectants. IC has a global presence with plants and joint ventures in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, the USA, China and Japan. IC is part of the business area Specialty Chemicals.
Within this context, your mission in this role is to lead the turnarounds (TA) of 2 High Hazard and 2 Low Hazard installations at the AkzoNobel site in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This involves a replacement investment value of 1 bln Euro. You will lead a team of 6 full time employees, as well as project/TA teams with multiple representatives throughout the whole site organization, and >250 contractors during execution phase.

The role and its responsibilities
This is a high profile role in which you have full responsibility for the safe and timely preparation and execution of the turnaround scope within the approved budget. You have full control of resource allocation, and via a strict meeting and communication structure and gatekeeping process, you keep all participants and stakeholders informed so that the project stays on track.
At all times you adhere to AkzoNobel policies, guidelines, processes, methodologies, working methods and systems. You also participate in and execute value improving practices (peer reviews, value engineering) and knowledge management (sharing, maintaining, updating information and best practices).
Relationship Management is key as you manage customer expectations, liaise with the (Capex) sourcing organization, and build, maintain and utilize a network of in- and external stakeholders/partners and represent the project within the organization. You also build and maintain a network with fellow TA leaders, and participate and lead the development of the local TA community.
AkzoNobel is committed to a process of non-stop Continuous Improvement and you play your part by identifying opportunities and making suggestions for improvement in TA efficiency and effectiveness.
In terms of People Management you ensure TA staffing, and lead, coach, appraise and develop team members and stimulate talent management. Where necessary you secure outsourcing to designated third party provider, and manage third party providers while on site.
