We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated PhD student in the field of kidney disease epidemiology. The applicant will work for the ERA-EDTA Registry, the European Registry for patients on dialysis and kidney transplants. For many patients kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice in end-stage kidney disease because of the superior quality of life and longevity and the lower costs in comparison to dialysis. However, the number of dialysis and kidney transplant patients vary considerably across European countries. Moreover, their mean age is increasing whereas the quality of kidneys for transplantation is decreasing.
In order to better understand international differences and trends in the characteristics of patients and kidney donors and in treatment outcomes, in this project the applicant will investigate the epidemiology and outcomes of patients on dialysis and in particular of kidney transplantation in Europe. He or she will write scientific articles and a PhD thesis.
