The Preclinical and Translational MRI group of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Physics of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam is hiring a PostDoc for a project on 19-Fluorine MRI of cardiac inflammation.
Inflammation is a key player in various heart diseases. Therefore, a noninvasive imaging method to provide information on the location, amount and dynamics of myocardial inflammation can significantly improve the patient’s outcome. Fluorine (19F) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of fluorine-containing nanoparticles that home to sites of inflammation holds great promise for specific and quantitative assessment of cardiac inflammation. The postdoctoral project involves the development of MRI methodology for sensitive and quantitative detection of 19F in the inflamed mouse myocardium. The project is part of a collaboration with the Radboud University Nijmegen and various industrial partners, including MR Solutions, Medis medical imaging systems, MR Coils, and Fujifilm Visualsonics.
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or similar, with strong interest in medical imaging. An article 9 certificate of the Experiments on Animals Act (Dutch: Wet op de Dierproeven) or international equivalent is a prerequisite. We are looking for a positively minded scientist with verbal and written skills in English, motivated to learn new approaches and ready to work hard in an inspiring environment to build a scientific career in translational medicine.
Working at AMC means working in an inspiring and professional environment in which developing one`s talents and skills is encouraged. We offer:

The AMC is more than just a hospital. It is a world in which patient care, research and education are integrated, and in which people are always central. It is an academic world full of possibilities for talented individuals that are looking for a place where they can excel. Thinking big, daring to dream, cooperating internationally. And never letting yourself be put off by ‘It’s not possible’ or ’It won’t work anyway’. That is the AMC mentality.
The Preclinical and Translational MRI group, headed by prof. Gustav Strijkers, has the ambition to develop novel quantitative and comprehensive MRI technology. Application areas include cardiovascular diseases, oncology, and neuromuscular disorders. The research is translational (from mouse to human) and the group has strong links to the Radiology department. Core facility of the group is a new laboratory equipped with a 7 Tesla preclinical MRI scanner for animal research.
