UBER FOR RESIDENTIAL GAS DELIVERY
Most households in Brazil rely on bottled gas for cooking and hot water use. For cylinder replacement they depend on a nontransparent market with high prices, slow delivery and dangerously installed bottles by clandestine dealers. Chama brings much needed price and quality transparency. They make ordering gas cheaper, faster and safer.
Chama’s app gives consumers an overview of all accredited resellers delivering in their area, including prices, delivery times and user ratings. The company currently serves 1.4 million households in Sao Paolo, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte and Curitiba.
Chama grows with 10 to 20 percent month-over-month, and has secured investment of 50 to 100 million euro to continue its extraordinary growth trajectory. First focus is conquering Brazil. Next step is entering other major markets in Latin and South America, Africa and Asia.

CTO: MANAGING TECH AND PRODUCT
The CTO leads the central tech and product teams. He/she reports to the CEO and has the Head of Tech and the Head of Product as direct reports. The CTO has five main responsibilities.
Technical strategy and architecture
He/she formulates the technical strategy to handle the increasing user, dealer and driver base and establishes development and deployment practices to match growing volumes.
The CTO manages 30 to 40 people in total (tech and product). He/she doubles the size of the teams in two years’ time. Scaling up requires e.g. evolving recruitment and professionalizing the way of working.
The CTO develops the product roadmap. He/she allocates resources between technology and product development, managing business priorities.
The CTO enables regular high quality releases. He/she empowers engineers to rapidly test and deploy their ideas and builds a culture of measurement, accountability and quality.
Operations and security
The CTO ensures robustness, performance and availability of the platform. He/she makes sure customers, dealers and drivers are well protected in using Chama’s technology.
- MSc in Computer Science and 10+ years of working experience
- Managed a large (ideally 80+, but at least 30) team of engineers, designers and PMs
- Significant experience with a globally scaled mobile application
- Technical expertise in platform scaling, app performance, analytics and API platforms
