This PhD project aims at unraveling the impact of modern radiotherapy techniques on the risk to develop radiation-induced secondary cancers, which is a relatively rare but very severe long-term complication of radiotherapy.
This project is a collaboration between the Erasmus Medical Center and the Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organization (IKNL), and it is funded by KWF (Dutch Cancer Society) for a period of 4 years. Cancer risks of prostate cancer survivors will be studied using data of the nationwide population-based database of the Netherlands Cancer Registration, adding information on applied treatment techniques from Dutch radiotherapy institutes.
Responsibilities of the selected candidate will include: database handling, data collection, documenting, data analysis, writing & publishing manuscripts, and reporting results at local meetings and at (inter-) national conferences.
You are a highly motivated candidate with a master degree in Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences, Medicine, Epidemiology, or a related field. Excellent skills in database handling, statistical analyses and epidemiological methods are required, as well as in academic writing and presenting in English. As you will be part of a multidisciplinary team, good communication skills are essential. You are eager to learn and you are comfortable working in an academic research environment. Research experience in either Oncology, Urology, Medical Physics, Cancer Registry Data, or Radiotherapy is a plus.
Being able to present a certificate of good conduct, a valid proof of identity, diploma's and/ or relevant registration such as BIG/ RGS are conditions for the appointment.
ArbeidsvoorwaardenYou will receive a temporary position for 4 years. The gross monthly salary is € 2.357 ,- in the 1st year and increases to € 3.020,- in the 4th year (scale OIO). The terms of employment are according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Dutch University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
