Functieomschrijving

The Chien Lab is looking for a self-motivated Postdoc with a strong background in computational biology to study cancer genomics, epigenomics and transcriptomics. We develop tools combining optical and chemical methods to address biological questions, particularly in cancer biology. We have developed a single cell isolation technique ('photopick') allowing single cell selection based on tumorigenesis-associated changes in cellular characteristics like increased mobility, oncogenic phenotype transitions and changes in protein expression profiles associated with neoplasticity. The goal of the project is to explore underlying molecular mechanisms of neoplastic tumorigenesis including metastasis, recurrence and therapy resistance by deciphering single cancer cells' genetic, epigenetic and transcriptomic information through single cell next-generation sequencing (NGS).

The successful candidate will interact with a diverse group of faculty in physics, chemistry, bioengineering and cell biology, and will be able to collaborate with leading laboratories at Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, the Cancer GenomiCs.nl consortium and Delft University of Technology.

Functie-eisen

  • The successful candidate must have a PhD in a relevant discipline computational Biology/Bioinformatics/Statistics/Computer Science with a publication record that reflects individual accomplishment.
  • Proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: C++, PERL, Python, R, Java, MatLab. Knowing LabView programming is a plus!
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data (WGS, WES, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq) analysis is preferred.
  • A strong command of scientific English in speech and writing is essential, proven by publications in international journals and presentations at international meetings.
Being able to present a certificate of good conduct is a condition for the appointment.

Conditions

The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.216,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
