As a post-doctoral researcher you will be developing a microsimulation model to assess the impact of tobacco control policies on perinatal and child health on a global scale. In addition you will be involved in epidemiological assessments in the field of tobacco control. In your second year you will actively be seeking opportunities to secure funding to further support your line of research.
Tobacco smoke exposure during early life has significant negative health consequences. Tobacco control policies have considerable potential to benefit children's health, for example via reducing preterm birth and severe respiratory events including asthma attacks and lower respiratory tract infections. The purpose of this project is to develop a microsimulation model to estimate the potential impact of tobacco control policies on perinatal and child health. Using local demographic data the model will be adapted to situations of different countries. The model is envisioned to serve as a tool for public health experts and policy makers to prioritise implementation of the most effective policies to benefit child health. Alongside, opportunities will be explored to - via epidemiological studies - address important knowledge gaps in the field, including understanding the impact of tobacco control policies in low- and middle-income countries.
You are an excellent researcher who has obtained a PhD within the last three years. Your expertise is in the field of medicine, statistics, epidemiology, public health, econometrics, or health sciences, and you have an interest in seeing research findings being translated into policy. Preferably you have gained experience working at a foreign research institute, and are familiar with statistical software programmes including R. We expect a fair degree of independence, active input of innovative ideas, and excellent analytical and communication skills.
Being able to present a certificate of good conduct, a valid proof of identity, diploma's and/ or relevant registration such as BIG/ RGS are conditions for the appointment.
