The lab aims at shedding light on the neural mechanisms of empathy by combining studies in humans and rodents using a broad array of techniques. The successful candidate will lead the efforts to use our large-scale single cell recording system. The candidate will acquire new data in awake, freely behaving rodents and human patients, but will also have the opportunity to mine existing data already available in the lab using advanced data analysis approaches.
The candidate will have a Ph.D. with established expertise in electrophysiology as well as a desire to work with both animals and humans in elaborate behavioural paradigms, the love for performing experiments and analyse complex data both independently and within a collaborative team environment. Experience with Matlab programming to perform and analyze large-scale electrophysiological recordings is desired. Candidates with an interest in social neuroscience and a strong signal processing background are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants need to have at least one high-quality, first-author publication using modern silicon probes or similar ensemble recording techniques accepted upon application. Candidates that are competitive for acquiring personal grants (NWO VENI or similar) will be preferred.
