Associate Professor Malaria Biology and Vaccine Development

Within the Department of Parasitology we have an opening for an associate professor. We are looking for an ambitious candidate with a strong background in (molecular) biology/biochemistry with capabilities to maintain and expand the leading position of the LUMC parasitology department in the field of malaria transgenesis and vaccine development targeting the liver phase of infection.

Our approach is characterized by an energetic, open and can-do spirit that stimulates personal initiative and curiosity. You will connect with the different groups that are within the department and foster the ongoing collaborations with other LUMC departments, sharing cutting edge knowledge on science and technologies and extend the international network of malaria researchers of which the LUMC is part in order to answer key basic scientific as well as translational questions. In addition, you will provide guidance to members of the molecular malaria team.


You have a PhD in (molecular) biology/biochemistry, an excellent track record as a scientist with strong managerial capabilities, educational skills and the experience necessary to drive the research of malaria liver stages in the international research arena. You have either already experience in analysing malaria liver infection or a strong interest in changing the focus of your career to this topic. You have capabilities to maintain and ensure continuing visibility and impact of the excellent reputation of the LUMC parasitology department. You combine scientific excellence with an open-minded and collaborative mindset in research and teaching and will contribute enthusiastically to the acquisition and execution of externally funded projects.


You will work in a 40-hour workweek. Initially you will be appointed for the duration of one year, possibly to become tenured. Your salary is based on your education and experience and amount to a maximum of € 6,448 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek (scale 13 of the collective labor agreement University Medical Centers).
