In this project, you will perform micro-photoluminescence and/or micro-Raman experiments using state-of-the-art equipment at cryogenic temperatures in magnetic fields up to 38 T.
Depending on your interest you will work on 2D materials, such as graphene or monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides, high-temperature superconductors or quantum spin liquids, exploring the emergence of novel electronic and magnetic phases as a function of temperature and magnetic field strength. We specifically encourage candidates to develop their own ideas.
An integral part of the work will be to carry out experiments in collaboration with local PhD students and external users of HFML.
The High Field Magnet Laboratory (HFML) works on a variety of materials, ranging from correlated electron systems and semiconductor nanostructures to organic matter. The focus of our work is to use intense magnetic fields and a broad scope of experimental techniques to gain a fundamental understanding of the electrical, optical and magnetic properties of these materials. Our research is embedded in the Institute for Molecules and Materials at Radboud University in Nijmegen and the broader activities of HFML as an international research facility.
We seek candidates with a strong background in experimental physics who are motivated to work in an international and wide-ranging research environment.
You should have completed a PhD, or be about to submit your PhD thesis.
Experience in low-temperature, optical techniques is essential. Experience working with high magnetic fields would be an advantage.
You should have strong communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken English and we expect you to contribute to the HFML user support within your field of expertise.
NWO-I, the Institutes Organisation of NWO prefers candidates who have qualifying experience (e.g. as PhD student or postdoctoral researcher) in a scientific research institute abroad.
You will be employed by NWO-I for a fixed period of two years.
Your salary will be up to a maximum of 4,237 euro gross per month, depending on your level of experience. The salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8 percent and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33 percent.
The conditions of employment of NWO-I are laid down in the Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres (Cao-Onderzoekinstellingen), more exclusive information is available at this website under Personeelsinformatie (in Dutch) or under Personnel (in English).
General information about working at NWO-I can be found in the English part of this website under Personnel. The 'Recruitment code' applies to this position.
