The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is a recently started, fast growing research hospital for children with cancer. In its mission statement our goal is reflected: increasing survival, with less short term and late effects. One of the important short term effects is a changed body composition, caused by changes in intake and/or by decreased activity. The new research line on nutrition, body composition and physical activity in children with cancer aims to develop interventions to improve the body composition and physical activity, and thereby quality of life, other toxicities and in the end survival. However, before these interventions can be developed, more basic research is needed.
Tasks and responsibilities
The post-doc will help establish this new research line in the supportive care research group (PI Dr W. Tissing) by joining expertise from different groups in one research line. He /she will co-supervise a PhD student on smell and taste in children with cancer, performs his / her own studies and writes grants for future studies.
Skills and education
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD degree with a background in medicine or a biomedical related study. The post doc must be have good communication skills, be flexible and be a good teamplayer. He/she must have an independent and creative working style and proven ability to collaborate in a research team and to take the lead in organizing collaborative work.
What do we offer
We offer a 2 year position (with possible prolongation) as postdoctoral researcher in the research group “supportive care” in the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht. The post-doc will work in a stimulating environment, and will collaborate with basic researchers doing pre-clinical studies, clinical professionals (dieticians, physiotherapists, oncologists etc) and researchers from other research institutes.
