Functieomschrijving

We are building a unique research resource (data- and biobank) to better understand thoughts, feelings, and behaviour in daily life and how these are related to the human brain, biological factors and the environment in which we live. The Healthy Brain Study is a huge research project based on about 90 Terabyte of data from 1000 healthy volunteers who will be intensively followed-up for one year.

As data scientist, you are expected to (pre)process the data before they are included in the data repository and perform continuous quality assessment. In collaboration with and consultation of the experts of the various tests and measurements, you will develop and apply standard operation procedures for this purpose. Your main focus will be on processing the brain imaging (MRI) data, but you will also be responsible for processing data from questionnaires, behavioural experiments, sensors/wearables, ecological momentary assessments (EMA) and readouts from sample analysis like genome data.

Furthermore, it is your task to make the data accessible for researchers, to make sure that datasets are equipped with rich metadata, that interoperability with external datasets is ensured and that reuse of the data is facilitated. In sum, you and the data manager make the Healthy Brain Study a FAIR resource in which the privacy of the participants is optimally protected and thereby a unique and sustainable resource for future scientific research on Radboud campus and beyond.

Functie-eisen

  • A PhD degree in biomedical science, (cognitive or computational) neuroscience, computer science, physics, mathematics, statistics, or related field as long as the relevant data processing expertise is available.
  • Motivated to become our data scientist for the next three years.
  • Research experiences in analyses of neuroimaging data collected from the following modalities: structural MRI, diffusion MRI, task fMRI and resting-state fMRI.
  • Strong programming skills in any of the following languages: Matlab, C/C++, Python, Shell Scripts, R, SAS, and extensive knowledge on Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Strong skills in the usage of one or more of the common MRI data processing platforms (FSL, SPM, AFNI) are required.
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative research team; interest in translational research between disciplines and fields participating in the Healthy Brain Study.
  • Experience with the analysis of data from questionnaires, behavioural experiments, sensors/wearables, ecological momentary assessments (EMA) and readouts from sample analysis like genome data is a plus.

Conditions

Upon commencement of employment we require a certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG) and there will be, depending on the type of job, a screening based on the provided cv. Radboud university medical center's HR Department will apply for this certificate on your behalf.
