The Information Systems Group at the Computer Science Department has a vacancy for a PhD student for a project funded by the University of Groningen. Candidates are invited to write and develop their own research project within the scope of the proposed topics listed below. Being part of a cutting-edge research programme, they will receive excellent training in the form of hands-on instruction, advanced courses and summer/winter schools, complemented by workshops on generic research and transferable skills as well as teaching training. As a PhD candidate, you are committed to conduct independent and original scientific research, to report on this research in international publications and conference presentations, and to describe the results of the research in a PhD dissertation, to be completed within 4 of years.
Scope and Topics of Interest
The scope of the research work is to identify and exploit synergies of the fields of BPM, Data Analytics and Adaptive (Service-based) Systems, and develop approaches for improvement of business process performance by embedding decision support into running business process/workflows.
Relevant application fields are as follows, but not limited to, commercial and humanitarian logistics, supply chain management, healthcare, and smart industry.
We are looking for candidates interested in both conceptual work as well as software engineering and development with interest in research in the synergies of:
• business Process Management and Workflow Technology
• data-driven Adaptation of Workflows
• workflow monitoring and performance measurement
• service Oriented Computing
• information Systems, Distributed Systems and Middleware
• data Science and Machine Learning
• internet of Things.
The PhD Student will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Dimka Karastoyanova.
Successful candidates will have completed a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the field of computer science, information systems, distributed systems, software engineering or another field of science relevant for the position. They have good command of English (oral and written), are enthusiastic and have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, have a passion for science, are highly motivated to work in the exciting area of research data-driven process performance improvement, possess excellent communication skills and an affinity for writing scientific papers and delivering presentations.
