Functieomschrijving

As a part of its Strategic Plan, the Faculty promotes multidisciplinary collaborations between psychology, sociology, pedagogy, educational sciences and teaching education in both teaching and research.

The Faculty has recently selected three broad research themes around which it wants to develop these multidisciplinary collaborations:
• Life-span learning and development
• Deficits, distress, disorders
• Individuals in society and organizations

We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the theme ‘Life-span learning and development’.

In the research theme Life-span learning and development we combine insights from pedagogics (special needs education and child care), educational sciences, sociology (social development of young people; healthy and happy ageing; norms and networks), and psychology (developmental psychology; social psychology; psychometrics). A multidisciplinary approach to human development is taken that includes social, cognitive, educational and emotional processes. It covers the development of the individual across childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. We take a lifespan perspective on how humans develop in interaction with parents, teachers, and partners as well as larger interpersonal networks in schools and communities. The goal is to understand the processes that are involved in learning, identity, socialization, psychopathology, and healthy ageing.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for developing this research theme together with current staff members. This includes bringing staff members together by organizing interdisciplinary meetings, workshops, and networking events; developing, conducting and publishing research relevant to this theme.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to dedicate 80% of his or her time to research, and 20% to the administrative tasks of the research theme.

Functie-eisen

A PhD degree in one of the fields relevant for the research theme; a multidisciplinary background in more than one of these is a plus. Excellent communicative, organizational and methodological skills. Ability to collaborate in a research or teaching team and to take the lead in organizing collaborative work. Excellent project management skills. The ability to communicate orally and in written form in English (command of English C1 level).

Conditions

The University of Groningen offers a salary that will be between € 3,475 gross per month (scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities for a fulltime position) and € 4,757 gross per month (max. scale 11) based on the experience of the candidate plus a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The appointment will initially be for one year fulltime. In case of a positive performance evaluation, which will be held before the end of this first appointment, the position will be extended to another year fulltime.

Starting date: 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
