Job Description
This role offer an unmissable chance to capitalise on your commercial acumen and knowledge of European power markets. You’ll gain unrivalled insight into European Power and Gas Markets, great exposure to Government Relations and huge scope to make a commercial impact.

Where you fit in
Shell Energy Europe and Environmental Products’ (SE-EE) is part of Shell Trading –
one of the world’s largest energy traders, combining a world trading network with an unsurpassed global portfolio in crude oil, refined products, natural gas, electrical power, and chemicals. SE-EE deal with some 8,600 customers in Europe’s highly fluid gas and power landscape.

You’ll join SE-EE’s Regulatory Affairs team, whose role is to scan the political, legislative and regulatory landscape for opportunities and threats to our business and to then respond appropriately – usually through supporting the commercial teams developing their strategy and through external engagement, advocacy or lobbying activity.

What’s the role?
You’ll focus on power regulation and, to some extent, gas regulation in North West markets, the Netherlands in particular. It’s an influential role: power is a growth area for us, with regulatory developments at the forefront.

Working closely with other power regulatory experts in the team, you’ll monitor and influence national authorities on policy, regulatory and market design issues that have a potential impact on our business. Your challenge will be to expertly nurture networks and cultivate relationships so as to shape the commercial climate and regulatory framework for value protection, new opportunities and business growth.

Developing insights and identifying opportunities is just the start; we’ll also trust you to develop concrete plans to pursue them. That includes:

  • Preparing material to engage traders, commercial leaders and other senior stakeholders
  • Representing Shell with national governments, regulatory authorities, industry associations, transmission system operators, exchanges etc
  • Developing and implementing strategies, positions and plans

Requirements
What we need from you

We’re looking for sound knowledge of European power markets and experience of the changing regulatory, commercial, customer and competitor playing field in the power industry in North West European markets – particularly the Netherlands. We require someone with an extensive and proven track record on regulatory affairs. You’ll also need fluent Dutch and English language skills, both in person and in writing.

Beyond that, we’re keen to hear from men and women of graduate calibre whose CVs include as many of the following as possible:

  • The creativity and commercial acumen to respond confidently (and in many cases under time pressure and in public fora) to challenges in negotiations with highly experienced, commercially astute regulatory professionals.
  • Strong external focus; an ability to network and develop relationships with diplomatic skill
  • The ability to combine a vast array of data/knowledge with specialist, strategic advice and synthesize it into a clear consistent storyline – this will be vital to effective lobbying.
  • Ideally, some knowledge of European gas markets and experience of the changing regulatory, commercial, customer and competitor playing field in the gas industry in Northern Europe
