Quantitative methods for large-scale transport systems and logistics
We are seeking an Assistant Professor of Large-Scale Adaptive Dynamic Engineering Structures, with a particular fascination for sustainable dynamic hoisting and transport operations in a maritime context involving cargo such as granular materials, containers and break bulk incl. large spare parts for offshore service logistics. With increasing complexity of mechanical systems (due to larger sizes, combinations of new material properties, and diversification of energy sources), modeling and evaluating kinematics and dynamic responses to varying loads becomes more challenging. You will work on novel approaches for design and modelling of operational dynamics of onshore and offshore mechanical multi-systems. You are fascinated by modern techniques to adapt to, prevent and limit extreme situations by control of movements under harsh conditions. You will make an active contribution to the group’s research and education curriculum for both the Bachelor and Master programs. You will develop and give lectures and supervise Master students with an engineering background. Initiating and carrying out high-level research projects and publishing research in leading journals are essential parts of the job.
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
• A PhD and/or strong track record in the domain of large-scale mechanical, industrial or maritime engineering;
• MSc in Mechanical Engineering or comparable;
• Excellent ability of modelling and design of moving structures;
• Excellent scientific credentials or extensive relevant practical experience;
• Experience with and ability to work in teams in an academic, interdisciplinary environment with engineers as well as people in other disciplines;
• Good didactic qualities and experience in teaching.
At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
