You are responsible for the development of a new research line which deals with the design of novel aerospace structures which go beyond the typical structural performance objectives such as low mass and typical structural constraints such as strength and stiffness. Your new research line should involve the design of novel aerospace structures and technologies which are designed for sustainable parameters including but not limited to recyclability, resource management, life cycle sustainability analysis. Furthermore, the economics aspects of the design of aerospace structures should be taken into account and traded off with the life cycle aspects. These designs should be generated in the conceptual and preliminary design phases. This requires research into the development of pertinent models such as life-cycle management, cost modelling and production processes, amongst others, for said design phases.
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who is passionate about aircraft and spacecraft. You have a clear vision about the new trends and developments in the field of life cycle and economical design, focused on aerospace structures, within the fast-changing environment of green aviation and space. Industrial exposure is a plus. You have an excellent command of the English language, in direct communication as well as writing skills and should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary environment. You have a doctoral degree (or equivalent due to years of experience in industry or academia) in aerospace, mechanical or civil engineering, or an equivalent engineering field.
A tenure-track position is offered for six years. Based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment, a decision will be made by the fifth year whether to offer you a permanent faculty position. For circumstances as having children or parental leave during the tenure track, it is possible to delay the definitive assessment and extend the Tenure Track appointment to a maximum of 8 years.
