The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor in Energy Systems. The position is established within the Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) department, more specifically in the Energy and Industry (E&I) group, where research on energy systems integration, the energy systems transition and smart-grids takes place. The department hosts, in addition to these energy system experts, industry (decarbonization), mobility (passenger as well as freight) and ICT experts (cyber, distributed systems, IT architectures), as well as choice modelling and decision making scholars. This combination of expertise guarantees that the cross-sectoral and socio-technical characteristics of the energy transition are addressed, involving e.g. electric and automated mobility, cybersecurity, carbon-neutral fuels and the shift to a fully circular economy. We are looking for a faculty member to strengthen our research and education on energy system modelling and the energy transition.
In this position, you will be expected to:
- perform research in the field of energy system modelling and complex energy transitions;
- interact with a wide range of national and international stakeholders including energy modelling experts and industry as well as policy makers at all levels;
- acquire and execute externally-funded research project(s);
- develop courses and conduct teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
The Energy and Industry group is proud to be gender-balanced; we encourage female candidates to apply.
We are looking for a candidate with an interdisciplinary track record to focus on system challenges (engineering and economic/governance) of energy transitions. Supported by your colleagues, you will develop new, independent research lines in energy system modelling to support complex energy transitions. We expect the candidate to have an appreciation of scientific and engineering challenges of the energy transition (including sector coupling). You will contribute to the collaborative mentality of the group by your ability to inspire colleagues and students through research, teaching, creativity and management skills.
A tenure-track position is offered for six years. Based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment, a decision will be made by the fifth year whether to offer you a permanent faculty position. For circumstances as having children or parental leave during the tenure track, it is possible to delay the final assessment and extend the Tenure Track appointment to a maximum of 8 years.
