We are seeking an ambitious and inspiring colleague contributing towards the design and analysis of polymeric materials and/or polymer matrix composites. The candidate should have a strong experimental background with focus on the materials science aspects. He/she should be able to perform fundamental research with foreseeable practical relevance, and to complement the expertise in polymer science and composite mechanics present within and outside the Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering faculty. Examples of areas of interest in polymers and/or polymer composites: i) testing and characterization under extreme/multi-physics conditions; ii) joining and advanced manufacturing; iii) recycling and contributions to the circular economy; iv) nonconventional polymeric materials (mixed polymers, fibre hybridization etc.); and v) other innovative contributions toward practical characterisation of these materials.
Candidates should hold a PhD degree and should have a proven track record of high quality publications as well as a strong motivation for education. A high degree of creativity is expected in the exploration of new research fields, together with a strong drive to attract funding and a good eye for combining scientific excellence with industrial relevance. The successful candidate will play an active role in the education programmes of the Maritime (Offshore and Dredging) and Materials departments, with contributions to both Bachelor and Master programmes. An active role in departmental management tasks is also expected.
At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
