The research programme of the Safety and Security Science group develops safety and security science methodologies from descriptive to creative, and from "after-the-fact" to anticipatory. It devotes special attention to Bayesian Belief Network Modelling for cause consequence relationships.
This tenure-track position will help advance the state of the art in modelling safety and security-related and safety and security-critical systems. The position deals for instance with modelling systems of systems, and developing methods, e.g. using big data or Bayesian networks for understanding and assessing risks in complex processes needed to pinpoint detailed safety and security issues in supporting technologies.
A particular area of interest is that of designing overarching risk-based decision-making frameworks for chemical-, process - and nuclear industries and critical infrastructures. This involves improving methodologies of decomposing systems into components and establishing relationships between these components, for example with Bayesian Networks. Examples are cascading effects modelling in networks and the development of domino accident prevention and protection frameworks. There is also a need for the further development of methodologies for the integration of safety and security in risk assessment and management and for dealing with other trade-offs such as costs, productivity, usability and privacy.
The teaching programme of the Safety and Security Science group covers a broad range of courses to Bachelor – and Master students, as well as some external courses. This tenure-track position will involve the teaching of the course Risk Analysis & Risk Management, the course Design of Safety and Security Systems and the course Introduction to Safety Science.
Finally, the tenure-track position involves the acquisition of new PhD- and MSc students, and the supervision of a number of on-going PhD studies.
A Tenure Track, a process leading up to a permanent appointment with the prospect of becoming an Associate or full Professor, offers young, talented academics a clear and attractive career path. During the Tenure Track, you will have the opportunity to develop into an internationally acknowledged and recognised academic. We offer a structured career and personal development programme designed to offer individual academics as much support as possible.
