Delft University of Technology is hiring a doctoral candidate on the subject of ‘Future Electricity Market Design'. How to design, organize and regulate energy markets for a sustainable future is one of the great challenges of the energy transition. In this position, you will work as part of an international team of energy experts and modellers in a European Horizon 2020 project to tackle this problem.
Your work will be to model possible market designs that have been developed in the project in an agent-based electricity market model. This model will be linked to physical electricity system models of project partners to establish the feasibility and performance of the proposed market designs.
Specifically, your tasks will be:
1. To investigate market designs to support optimal development of new technologies and grid infrastructure.
2. To develop an agent-based simulation model of an energy system for testing alternative market designs and regulations. The development of this model is expected to constitute the majority of the work in this project.
3. To assess the required institutional changes to support the transition to a sustainable electricity market.
This is a four-year doctoral appointment, which will be jointly supervised by dr. Laurens de Vries, Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, and dr. Milos Cvetkovic, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. The research will be performed in collaboration with our consortium partners.
You like to work in an international, multi-disciplinary environment on energy-transition relevant problems, have an open personality and good English language skills. You are able to communicate and collaborate well with international consortium partners, colleagues and students.
You have a recent Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline and demonstrable affinity with energy economics and/or energy system analysis.
Preferably, you have prior experience with computer modeling and simulation, power systems and energy economics. You are at the top of your class and enjoy performing research. You are independent, self-motivated and eager to learn.
