Closing the material loops of mineral wool at the end of its lifecycle by introducing novel technology and value chain to CDW sorting, analysis, pre-treatment, processing, novel products development, market introduction and commercialization is the main goal of the European H2020 project Wool2Loop (mineral wool waste back to loop with advanced sorting, pre-treatment and alkali activation). We seek a PhD to design alkali-activated mineral wool mixtures for 3D printing products and elements. Based on printing nozzle and material delivery system developed by other partners within the Wool2Loop-project, you will focus on material mixture design, i.e., rheological and mechanical properties for determination of suitable early age printability, consistency and stability to meet the printing process in a small lab scale and large industrial scale. The results of this project will provide information about printing time and materials used for online 3D printing platform. This PhD research will be in close collaboration with other partners within the Wool2Loop-project.
We are looking for a motivated student with an MSc degree in in Civil Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or Chemical Engineering. You have demonstrable affinity with experimental research on construction materials; preferably on alkali activated materials.

The salary mentioned as the maximum will be your salary in your fourth year.
