As a PhD within the chairs of Heritage & Technology (Faculty of Architecture) and of the chair of Experimental Micromechanics (Faculty of Civil Engineering) you will work in the OTP TTW project MORISAL on "Mortars with mixed-in Inhibitors for mitigation of salt damage". You will work in close collaboration with the Eindhoven University of Technology (Department of Applied Physics) and the Radboud University. Besides, collaboration with TNO and producers of building materials is foreseen.
As PhD candidate you will perform the following tasks:
- Elucidate the interaction of inhibitor with different mortar binders;
- Investigate the leaching rate of the inhibitor and techniques for its encapsulation and controlled release;
- Develop prototypes of mortars with mixed in inhibitor and assess their durability in laboratory and on site.
We are looking for an enthusiastic academic, with a background in inorganic chemistry, mineralogy, material science or an engineer, interested in building materials. The candidate should have affinity to multi-disciplinary and multi-analytical challenges and a hands-on attitude for laboratory work.
Experience in analytical techniques (like electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction) and basic understanding of crystallography is necessary. Experience with modelling is welcome.
Required: excellent spoken English and English scientific writing skills.
