Department
Research in the department of Imaging Physics is aimed at developing novel instrumentation and methodology in imaging science and sensing technology. Our research products extend existing boundaries in terms of spatial resolution, temporal resolution and information/data throughput. We are pioneers in developing advanced concepts of computational imaging, a marriage between cleverly designed imaging systems and sophisticated post-processing. In everything we do, there is a core of cutting edge physics and engineering of high-tech instruments, of the use of the most advanced computing techniques, and of a very close link to real-life applications. Our work has clear societal impact in the areas of life sciences, healthcare, and industry.

Functie-eisen

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a "drive" for applied research. You have a demonstratable interest in advanced imaging or microscopy, for instance related to Lensless imaging | Super-resolution microscopy | MRI scanning | Space optics | Ultrasound | Correlative microscopy | Brain imaging | Seismic imaging | Electron beam imaging | Scatterometry. We expect creativity, flexibility and ability to co-operate within an interdisciplinary research group.

The following criteria will be used to evaluate potential candidates:

  • Masters or equivalent in physics, biophysics, electrical engineering, math, computer science or a related field
  • Highly competitive academic record and outstanding performance at Bachelor’s and Master’s level (top 20% ranking during your BSc and MSc)
  • Outstanding analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including good written and spoken English, as well as the ability to conduct independent scientific work
  • Experience in programming, simulation and/or modelling experience is highly advantageous for some of our projects.

Conditions

TU Delft offers PhD-candidates a 4-year contract, with an official go/no go progress assessment after one year. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2395 per month in the first year to € 3061 in the fourth year. As a PhD candidate you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School. The TU Delft Graduate School provides an inspiring research environment with an excellent team of supervisors, academic staff and a mentor. The Doctoral Education Programme is aimed at developing your transferable, discipline-related and research skills.
