Research, education and management in Computation-in-Memory team
The job description for this position covers three aspects:
Research: The post-doc is expected to join the Computation-in-Memory team (three PhD students and several MSc students) and perform research in collaboration with our partners in the EU and the USA; the research programme can be part of EU projects, bilateral collaboration with industry, or even national programmes.
Management: Together with the chair professor, the post-doc is also expected to take the lead in a Computation-in-Memory team (three PhDs and a couple of master students). He/she will co-supervise the team and be active in some management activities, e.g., writing projects.
Education: It is expected that the post-doc will be actively involved in education programmes that the CE Lab is involved in. In particular, the CE Lab is teaching computer architecture-related courses.
This position lends itself quite well to be the start of an academic career.
You hold a PhD in computer engineering or a related discipline and you have a track record of scientific excellence in the field(s) of Computer Architecture and/or circuit design. Knowledge and experience in some or all of the following fields will be an asset:
• Memristive device technology
• Circuit design concepts using resistive devices
• Micro-architecture; Microprocessors Architecture
• Solid background in digital design, computer arithmetic, and FPGA implementation
• Good programming practice.
You will be expected to lead or strongly contribute to academic publications, contribute to grant proposals, and interact with stakeholders outside academia. Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as social skills are therefore also required.

Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science
The Computer Engineering laboratory (CE Lab) is one of the largest labs of the faculty with eight professors, six post-docs, and more than 40 PhDs. The CE Lab performs research in a broad range of topics ranging from computer arithmetic and computer architecture to compiler construction and focuses both on embedded systems and high-performance computing without losing sight of future and emerging technologies. Our research is focused on five domains: (1) Quantum Computing, (2) Computation-in-Memory (3) Big Data Architectures, (4) Liquid Architectures, and (5) Dependable Nano Computing.
The computation-in-memory research domain within the CE lab aims at developing and demonstrating a new computation-in-memory (CIM) architecture based on resistive devices together with its required programming flow and interface. Activities are taking place in collaboration with our partners in an EU project led by the CE Lab; these are Eindhoven University of Technology, IMEC, ARM, IBM, RWTH-Aachen, ETHZ, and INRIA. The research activities include: (a) Design of new CIM architecture based on memristive devices, (b) Design and test of memristive-based logic and memories, (c) Design of efficient on-chip communication schemes for CIM architecture, (d) Development and design of new mapping method and framework for efficient compilation and mapping of parallel algorithms on CIM architecture, etc.
