Imaging Needles is a cooperation between research groups in the Netherlands (TU Delft and University of Twente) and India on minimally-invasive technologies for Affordable Health. With this project we will lay the foundation for a first generation of interstitial tissue imaging and characterization tools to be used with radio-frequency (RF) ablation and neurosurgery. The project will involve the development of comprehensive technologies that enable combined photoacoustic (PA) and ultrasound (US) imaging at the tip of a slender probe inserted through a hollow cutting needle (cannula) into tissue. The postdoc at AWI will have the responsibility for the development (design, prototyping and testing) of a the first PA/US forward-looking needle tip probe for intracranial ultrasound imaging.
We are looking for highly capable experimentalist with a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics or similar. Experience with biomedical imaging techniques, especially ultrasound or photo acoustics is highly desirable. Our candidate is highly motivated, adventurous and creative, and is willing to push boundaries. Our candidate has an excellent command of the English language, with excellent professional communication and team working skills. We expect the candidate to keep good contact with collaborators at UTwente and in India. The research will be performed mainly at the AWI group at the TU Delft.
