The Design Engineering department at TU Delft is looking for a postdoc candidate with experience and qualifications in smart adaptive systems with a focus on machine perception, machine cognition and/or human-machine interaction. The specific scope of this post-doc research project is expected to address one or a combination of the following research challenges: 1) recognition of and adaptation to human behaviour, 2) modelling and planning of safe interactions between humans and robots, 3) algorithms for safe navigation and motion in the presence of people, 4) tracking of humans, understanding of human actions and intents, 5) adaptation with respect to changing environmental conditions, and/or 6) techniques for maintaining consistent spatio-temporal representations. The successful candidate will have the freedom to specify the focus of his/her research within the above-mentioned domains of research.
Though the research primarily investigates theoretical aspects of smart adaptive systems, practical application of the developed solutions is expected to be validated in various domains of applications (e.g. logistics in healthcare, manufacturing or last mile delivery). The candidate will be offered the opportunity to cooperate with start-ups, mentor graduate students to accelerate his/her research.
The successful candidate is in possession of a doctoral degree in computer science, human computer interaction, or systems engineering with affinity to human factors and proven experience in experimentation. He or she should have a good understanding of (and be fascinated by) machine learning techniques, computer vision, artificial intelligence and/or human modelling. The candidate is expected to publish her/his research in scientific journals and conferences. The candidate should be capable of performing independent research and working in a team on research projects. He/she should have an open personality and good communication skills to closely cooperate with colleagues, and students. Note that there is not a Dutch language requirement .
