Voltage imaging is the optical detection of cellular electrical signalling. It promises new neuroscientific insights through the imaging of circuit dynamics deep in the living brain at previously inaccessible scales of time and space, detailed biophysical understanding of cellular signaling through detection of membrane voltage dynamics in subcellular compartments, and new avenues of disease modelling and therapeutic research through massively parallel recording of neural dynamics.
You’ll work on a multidisciplinary project at the cutting edge of this developing field.
Potential projects include:
• Nanoscopic investigations of signalling dynamics in synapses
• Investigation of developing zebrafish brains through absolute voltage imaging
• Development of multiphoton voltage imaging techniques for mouse brains.


You have a background in neuroscience, optogenetics, molecular biology, chemistry, physics or nanotechnology, and an interest in multidisciplinary science. Examples of desirable experience include: experimental microscopy, nanophotonics or electrophysiology; design/construction of imaging setups; data analysis/modelling; tissue slice/in vivo experiments (zebrafish/mouse); behavioral training; protein engineering; cloning; tissue culturing or DAQ programming.
You communicate well in English, are happy to learn skills out of your comfort zone and actively engage collaborators outside the lab.

Post-doc positions are available in the new Neuroimaging lab ( at Delft University of Technology. We are building a multidisciplinary team to work on voltage imaging, at the interface of optical physics, molecular biology, and neuroscience. This includes design of innovative optical imaging schemes, creation of new and improved voltage sensors, biophysical interpretation of voltage imaging data, and application in neuroscientific studies.
We value a collaborative environment, both within the lab and between labs. Joint appointments with Erasmus MC Rotterdam are a possibility.
