ReclaMet is an up-scaling project funded by EIT Raw Materials. The HIsarna process is a new and groundbreaking smelting reduction process to produce liquid hot metal from iron ores and coal. Due to a declining availability of primary Zinc ores, there is an increased interest in suitable secondary sources of Zn concentrates. This project aims at enriching the zinc content in the HIsarna flue dust to the level which makes it suitable for use in Zn smelters as secondary raw materials. The post-doc will focus on maximising zinc content in the Hisarna flue dust through lab-scale experiments to provide essential conditions and parameters for the larger-scale test runs at our industrial partners. He/she will also study the quality of hot metal and slag from lab- and larger-scale experiments of the HIsarna reactor.

We are looking for inspiring, self-motivated candidates to conduct a project involving the development and upscaling of a groundbreaking new ironmaking technology by our industrial partner. For the PhD position, you have a PhD in extractive metallurgy or chemical engineering. Furthermore, you:
• are enthusiastic about fundamental research linked to the metallurgical industry.
• have experience in high-temperature experimental techniques and skills in various sample characterisation methods (XRF, XRD, SEM, EPMA).
• have good communication skills (high degree of English proficiency) and the ability to work in a team, with industry stakeholders, academics, and technicians.
