Functieomschrijving

We are looking for an ambitious Postdoctoral Researcher to join the PYTHIA team: Artificial Intelligence for Structures, Prognostics and Health Management part of the Structural Integrity & Composites group.

The objective of the Postdoc is to design a digital twin concept of a fan blade from a LEAP engine and embed it into the Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) framework currently developed by our team. The digital twin should serve as a tool to generate health indicator data for the structural performance of the fan blade. The data will be used as training and validation input into the DPHM framework. The digital twin will test different scenarios by introducing different loading and boundary conditions. The work will be performed in a close collaboration with the PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers of our team.

This Postdoc is part of the H2020 project “MORPHO: Manufacturing, Overhaul, Repair for Prognosis Health Overreach; Embedded life cycle management for smart multimaterials and structures: application to engine components”. The overall goal of MORPHO is to enable efficient, profitable and environmental-friendly manufacturing, maintenance, and recycling of these next-generation smart engine fan blades. MORPHO consists of multiple partners across several European universities and companies and close collaboration with them, is expected. You will have a leading role in the collaboration.

Functie-eisen

The candidate should have a PhD degree in computational mechanics and strong background in damage modelling (progressive damage analysis, impact analysis) of composite structures. Advanced programming skills, i.e Python and/or C++ and a good understanding of the principles of structural health monitoring data are required. Experience in participation in EU research projects and project management is advantegeous.
