Due to improvements in hygiene, diet, disease prevention and healthcare, life expectancy worldwide has steadily increased. The aging society now poses the question how to combine further medical improvements with the sustainability of our healthcare system. Medical technology is expected to play a pivotal role in this balancing act by providing cost-effective strategies. The Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in general, and the department of Electrical Engineering (EE) in particular, aims at an important role in enabling and pushing this transition with fundamental and applied research. Hereto the Center for Care and Cure Technologies Eindhoven (C3Te) has been established.

As Project Officer / Business Developer of C3Te, you are the linking pin between scientists, medical doctors and representatives of industry. Using active networking, you will develop a strategic view on medical needs for supporting the scientific staff to initiate new research projects. In close cooperation with the Scientific Director of C3Te, you will stimulate the work of the different groups within C3Te with respect to research, funding and valorisation of the knowledge.

As Project Officer, your main functions and responsibilities will include:

  • Creation of an extensive network in medical centres and industry (SME and large enterprises), e.g. by participation in board and consortium meetings, and the organisation of networking events;
  • Exploitation of this network for the formulation of needs, and requirements, for C3Te research from a technological, academic, industrial, medical and public perspective, in close cooperation with the involved researchers.
  • Providing active support in the preparation and writing of proposals for submission to national and international grant agencies (ECSEL, MC, ERC, etc.). This work also includes the arrangement of NDA, consortium and grant agreements;
  • Managing large research projects including assembling and editing of periodic and final project reports;
  • Taking the lead in communication and dissemination activities for C3Te and the projects;

    The successful candidate has a PhD orMaster's degree in the field of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, applied physics or equivalent, and/or in a field at the cross-section of medicine and technology. He/she works well autonomously, i.e. actively takes on activities and tasks, has excellent networking skills and a strong drive for achieving results within the team.

    The successful candidate also has most of the following skills:
  • Experience with medical technology and/or a network in the medical field (industry and/or medical centers).
  • Experience in preparation, writing and management of EU project proposals, and knowledge of EU framework programmes.
  • Excellent text editing and proof-reading skills for preparation of reports, presentations, Gantt graphs, and capable of using office software packages (Microsoft Office) and web publishing tools (SharePoint).
  • Excellent spoken and written English capabilities. Able to draw-up technical specifications documentation and/or scientific reports and very good communication skills. Command of Dutch (written and oral) language is an asset, due to the many local industrial partners.

    Full or part-time appointment (0.6-1.0 fte) for initially 1 year, with the intention to prolong.
