Functieomschrijving

The Databases group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is searching for candidates for PhD positions in Big Data Management. The positions are fully-funded by EU and national funding sources and can start immediately.

The Databases group consists of three professors, and has close collaboration with several leading companies and other top universities worldwide, as well as with other groups within the university. Our research interests include big data management (including data streams, time series, big data platforms), hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs), graph query engines, and query languages. The research results of the group appear in top-tier conferences and journals, like SIGMOD, VLDB, TODS, and VLDBJ.

The working language in the group and across the university is English. There is no requirement to speak Dutch for applying for this position.

Functie-eisen

We are looking for candidates that meet the following requirements:

  • MSc degree in computer science, at the time of appointment;
  • A solid background in science or engineering, with strong mathematical affinity;
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, and goal oriented;
  • Excellent command of English;
  • Good programming skills (C, C++, Java), interest to build code that can scale to big data;
  • Good in data structures and algorithms;
  • Capability and willingness to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team;
  • Experience in research and a publication record will be considered additional advantages.

  • A full time temporary appointment for a period of 4 years, with an intermediate evaluation after 9 months;
  • A gross salary of €2.266 per month in the first year increasing up to €2.897 in the fourth year;
