Nucleic acids are well-defined nanoscale building blocks that are programmable, responsive and addressable. Their application in the supramolecular polymer field is understudied despite the potential to endow these materials with orthogonally responsive character, which is highly desired for numerous applications in the biomedical area. In this project we will use DNA and chromatin proteins to generate supramolecular polymer networks that form hydrogels for applications in drug delivery. Specifically, we will employ protein-based DNA-DNA cross-linkers to fine-tune the properties of the hybrid DNA-based networks by modulating the density and strength of DNA-DNA cross-links.
- Master’s degree in (Bio)Chemistry, Biophysics or equivalent;
- Good to excellent command of English;
- Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment;
- Required experience: Protein expression and purification, organic synthesis of small molecules and their characterization;
- Experience with the characterization of soft materials is a plus;
- The PhD research needs to start before December 2018.
