We expect a strong ambition towards innovative research, illustrated by publications in international journals and by taking up the challenge in acquiring research grants, either via personal schemes or in collaboration with others. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, allowing efficient interaction with colleagues from other disciplines. Furthermore, the candidate has obtained a PhD in technical sciences such as Mathematics or Theoretical Computer Science, and has gained international experience at a postgraduate level.
Teaching is an important part of the activities of the department. The candidate will be involved in the teaching program of the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor and Master level. The candidate is expected to transfer his/her specific expertise to the master program. To facilitate the professional development and quality of teaching, all lecturers are requested to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years of their first appointment.
Women are particularly encouraged to apply!
Applications (including curriculum vitae, list of publications, research statement, and three names of potential references) can be submitted online (www.utwente.nl/vacatures/en/) before 31st of July, 2017 to the University of Twente, attn. prof.dr. J.L. Hurink and prof.dr. M. Uetz.
The University of Twente (UT) invites researchers with an outstanding research record in Combinatorial Optimization and/or Mechanism Design to apply for an assistant professor position in the group Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming (DMMP, https://www.utwente.nl/ewi/dmmp/) of the Dept. Applied Mathematics in the Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science.
The expertise of the group DMMP is in the design and analysis of algorithms and mechanisms for optimization problems. The group consists of 8 permanent staff in research and teaching, covering a broad range of research themes, which fall in the research areas
Application areas are in energy, logistics, as well as traffic networks. Specifically, the group DMMP cooperates with the chair Computer Architectures for Embedded Systems of the same faculty in ‘Decentralized Energy Management’. We develop Mathematics and ICT to improve the overall efficiency of energy systems. The main focus is on smart grid technology, matching the best possible energy generation to the requested demand over time. We are (inter-)nationally leading in this area, see also et.ewi.utwente.nl/ . The candidate is expected to contribute to this research line, with special attention to the development of new Mathematical concepts for local energy and flexibility markets.
We offer a temporary assistant professor position for four years.
