Several research positions are available to early-stage and
experienced researchers in the Marie Sklodowska Curie Initial Training
Network MAGISTER, funded by the European Commission under Horizon
2020. MAGISTER is a multi-disciplinary project providing research
training in computational fluid mechanics, combustion dynamics,
acoustics and machine learning. The research objective is to predict
and control accurately the combustion dynamics in a gas turbine engine
over the full range of Technology Readiness Levels, by means of the
application of machine learning on CFD simulations, laboratory
experiments and full engine data.
Within the Thermal Engineering group a vacancy exists for a PhD position.
The objectives of this study are:
(I) LES of
acoustically forced spray flame using high order discretization method
with open source code SU2.(II) Build Lagrangian droplet trajectory and
evaporation model into SU2. (III) Build nonadiabatic FGM chemical
reaction model into SU2. (IV) Optimize performance of LES compressible
solver for spray combustion at high pressure.
The expected results are:
(I) Validated spray
and combustion dynamics simulation tool for application at high
pressure aero GT conditions. (II) Increased accuracy thanks to high

The salary for PhD research starts at € 2.222,- gross per month for
the first year and extends to a maximum of € 2.709,- gross per month
in the third year (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement
