Functieomschrijving

Within the Soft matter, Fluidics and Interfaces group there is 1 PhD position regarding transport phenomena near interfaces available The project concerns experimental studies on interfacial osmotic effects, relevant for many transport processes for applications including (green) energy generation, water purification, (biomass) catalysis, and membrane separations. While the projects are mainly experimental, numerical simulations will be included as well. A 3-month training period (external) regarding numerical simulations will be part of the PhD trajectory.

You will become part of an international research group with a strong collaborative atmosphere. As part of the PhD program, you have the opportunity to further education within the Twente Graduate School. Besides, you may actively contribute in the teaching program, e.g. by supervision of MSc assignment and teaching assistance.

Functie-eisen

You have a Master’s degree, preferably with distinction (or international equivalent) in (Fluid) Physics, Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline; good knowledge/demonstrated awareness of fluid and ionic transport phenomena as well as interfacial and colloidal phenomena. Experience in using (micro)fluidic devices and microscopic techniques is desired.

You possess good knowledge/demonstrated awareness of (numerical) modeling. Excellent analysis skills and an analytical mind-set, as well as excellent communication skills, including written. English language proficiency is a must and a written test will be part of the interview procedure.

You have an ability to work independently and as a member of a research team. A collaborative attitude is strongly desired. You are able to review and engage with interdisciplinary studies and are driven by curiosity.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

We offer a 4-year full-time position as a PhD candidate appointed at the University of Twente (UT), with a qualifier after 1 year. In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) the gross monthly salary ranges from € 2.222,- in the first year to € 2.840,- in the fourth year.
