The ideal candidate conducts research into (a) (the leadership of) resilient, innovative and/or entrepreneurial behaviors and mindsets amid uncertainty (be it inside or outside the organization), and (b) organizational design that supports such behaviors, while (c) considering the wider role and responsibility of business in society. Nonetheless, we certainly welcome applicants that focus on two of these three domains, and have specific research expertise in the area of resilience.
We are open to various conceptualizations of resilience, such as: organizational responses to external threats, organizational reliability, employee strengths, the adaptability of business models, or design principles that reduce vulnerabilities and disruptions (Linnenluecke, 2017; International Journal of Management Reviews; also see Williams et al. 2017; Academy of Management Annals). Examples of current and completed department projects at the crossroads of resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurship are: influence of entrepreneurial leaders’ personality on organizational resilience, innovation team resilience, resilience and integrity in the financial sector, entrepreneurs (non-)inclusion of disabled people, resilient online campaigning for nonprofits, resilient new organizational forms for small business, resilient organizing of IT infrastructures, entrepreneurs’ mental health as a source of resilience, entrepreneurs use of imagination for dealing with uncertainty, overcoming of market barriers for healthy ageing technology, and resilient university-industry collaborations.
You will be working closely with the chair in Organization Studies & Innovation and the two associate professors in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Strategic Entrepreneurship; we strongly value personal initiative in identifying interesting research opportunities in relation to resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Next to your main task in designing, executing, and publishing research, you are expected to apply and/or assist in applying for (inter)national research funding at for example the Dutch Science Foundation NWO or the European Union. In particular, applications for personal talent schemes are encouraged by the department and supported by the school and university. Your teaching will be limited to a part of the core master course Entrepreneurial Leadership & Responsible Organizational Design and the supervision of bachelor and master students in the research area of your interest. Willingness to obtain (parts of) the Dutch University Teaching Qualification during the post doc period is a plus.
We are looking for a highly motivated, proactive, and creative team player with a PhD in Business Administration or a related discipline such as Innovation Studies, Organizational Psychology, Organizational Sociology, Technology Management, Management Information Systems, Health Care Management, and the like. We will also consider candidates that are close to or have submitted but not yet defended their PhD thesis. You have excellent analytical and conceptual skills and outstanding track record, and are highly proficient in spoken and written English; command of the Dutch language is not a requirement. We expect you to provide evidence
of your skills in either qualitative or quantitative methods (or both), your publication plans and pipeline, and your specific motivation for this vacancy.
You should submit your application via www.utwente.nl/vacatures/en before January 8, 2018 h. 23:59 (CET). Applications should include: (1) a motivation letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) publications or other research output clearly showing your expertise in relevant areas, and (4) email and telephone contact information of at least two referees. Since only three documents can be uploaded per application, please combine documents if needed. Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be taken into consideration.
Interviews will take place in January 2018. In case needed, a second round of interviews will be conducted. The University of Twente reserves the right to make no appointment at all. Neither in part, nor in whole does this information form part of any contract between the University and any individual. For more information on this position, please contact dr. M.L.
