We invite applicants for a postdoctoral research position to further develop hybrid silica solvent nanofiltration membranes, which are fabricated via sol-gel methods. The main goal of this project is the chemical modification of existing sols, gels and membranes, allowing them to be used in the new and very interesting field of organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). These new developments will open a broad application landscape for this class of hybrid ceramic membranes and lead to more simple preparation technologies. To achieve, this a unique approach is used in which we can tune the pore size and affinity of the hybrid silica network, based on bridged silsesquioxanes.

You will be part of the Inorganic Membrane group of the University of Twente, which is part of the Membrane Science and Technology cluster and the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology. Research in the Inorganic Membrane group encompasses macro as well as micro scale phenomena in the field of the development of new membrane materials, a better fundamental understanding of transport mechanisms, and the design of membrane processes and membrane reactors.

As a researcher of the Inorganic Membrane group you are expected to perform research of high quality, efficiently collaborate with industrial partners, and to report on your research in international scientific journals.


The successful candidate will be a motivated researcher with a PhD in chemical engineering, physics or chemistry with affinity for membrane science and technology. Expertise and track record in membrane formation and/or membrane transport behavior are preferred. We expect a creative person that shows self-initiative with a hands-on mentality and independent team-oriented style of working. The candidate should have good communication skills backed with a good command of the English language.
