The successful applicant will work as a PhD student in the Vici project on molecular regulation of light responses in Arabidopsis under supervision of Prof. Ronald Pierik at the Plant Ecophysiology group.
Brief project overview:
Plants detect high plant densities via specific colors in the light (notably far-red light enrichment and blue light depletion) that induce shade avoidance responses. These responses include accelerated stem elongation, movement of leaves and changes in root development. We have recently started to notice, that although some of these are local responses to local signal perception, others involve signal transduction over spatial scales that encompass the entire organism. This PhD project represents a novel direction in our research that has a solid foundation in our previously built expertise. You will be studying the molecular and physiological mechanisms enabling developmental responses to light signals over multiple spatial scales within the organism.
Technically, your work may include, but may not be limited to, transcriptomics, gene cloning and transgenic expression, Western blotting, Y2H, BiFC, plant growth and physiology quantification, (confocal) microscopy. In addition, you will get the opportunity to develop your teaching skills by participating in the teaching of our courses and supervising BSc and MSc students in the lab.
We are looking for someone who:
- holds a Master's degree with a specialization in Plant Science;
- has experience in (plant) molecular biology;
- is organized, efficient and ambitious;
- is able to work in an international team;
- has strong communication and English language skills.
The candidate is offered a full-time position for 1 year, with the possibility of an extension. The salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - between €2,266 and €2,897 (P-Scale Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) gross per month for a full-time employment.
The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3% per year. In addition we offer: a pension scheme, a partially paid parental leave, flexible employment conditions. Conditions are based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities. The research group will provide the candidate with necessary support on all aspects of the project. More information is available on the website.
Additional information about the vacancy can be obtained from: Prof. Ronald Pierik (email@example.com).
