The Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning has a job opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher for the project ‘From patents to trademarks: towards a concordance map’. The project is led by Prof. Carolina Castaldi and funded by an Academic Research Grant of the European Patent Office (EPO).
The project has two main objectives. First, it aims at developing and validating a novel concordance map linking patents to trademarks through linking the underlying classifications. This concordance will be shared in an open data setting to allow researchers to exploit it. Second, it plans to use the concordance to provide answers to research questions relevant to the study of cleantech patents. These issues will be investigated by leveraging the large scale data of patents (PATSTAT) and trademarks (EUIPO database). The Postdoc will be part of a small but dedicated team led by Prof. Castaldi. The Postdoc will focus specifically on the methodological challenges of building a concordance, and on the dissemination of the project outcomes to academic and non-academic audiences (including policy makers).
The project team is embedded in the research group in Economic Geography, specialized in Evolutionary Economic Geography. We are looking for a researcher with a quantitative background, who recently completed a PhD in economics, management, innovation studies and/or data science.
Prior experience working with intellectual property rights data (patents and/or trademarks) is required.
ConditionsWe offer an appointment of 1.0 FTE for the duration of one year. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €2,790 and €3,619 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
