Candidates with an interest and expertise in Business and Society Management, Sustainable Finance, Circular Economy, Social Entrepreneurship, and/or Corporate Social Responsibility are invited to apply.
In 2021 U.S.E. starts a new academic Master's programme in Business & Social Impact. The programme is focused on how organizations create societal value and contribute to sustainable development. The programme builds on all disciplines helpful to create societal value, including economics, strategy, organization, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship and psychology. Furthermore, the Master's programme will reach out, and actively involve organizations and stakeholders within the Dutch business and sustainability ecosystem.

The candidate is expected to contribute to this Master's programme by developing and teaching courses related to the organizational strategy and practice of societal value creation, play an active role in developing the Master's programme in Business & Social Impact, setting up relationships with collaborators, and acquiring funds. The candidate should feel comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment, and collaborate with other domains in the field of business (e.g. entrepreneurship, marketing, organization, innovation, international business). The candidate may also teach in the Bachelor's Economics and Business Economics, the Master's Business Development & Entrepreneurship, or the International Management Master's. Teaching is in English. The candidate is also expected to contribute to Utrecht University’s research themes ‘Institutions for Open Societies’ or ‘Pathways to Sustainability’.

The successful candidate is expected to have:

  • a doctorate in economics, management or a related discipline;
  • potential for excellence in research, targeting publications in international peer-reviewed journals;
  • knowledge of and experience with various research methods;
  • prior teaching and research experience related to Business & Social Impact;
  • experience with fundraising and knowledge of valorization activities;
  • excellent communication and coordination skills;
  • an excellent command of spoken and written English.

In terms of research the candidate should be able to connect and collaborate with staff members of the Entrepreneurship section of U.S.E. and be willing to take an interest in other topics studied by staff members of our school.

U.S.E. offers a tenure track position (0.8-1.0 FTE) as an Assistant Professor for a period of 6 years, after which the candidate can become a tenured Assistant Professor (and in case of excellent performance, be immediately promoted to Associate Professor). During the tenure track period 40% of the position is reserved for research and 60% is dedicated to teaching activities. The tenure decision is based on U.S.E.’s tenure track criteria regarding research and teaching. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €3,746 and €5,127 (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition, Utrecht University offers excellent secondary conditions, including an attractive retirement scheme, (partly paid) parental leave and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model).
