The Department of Social Psychology at Tilburg University (the Netherlands) is a vibrant group comprised of social, economic and organizational psychologists. Our department fosters an intellectually stimulating and productive environment, advancing knowledge on social decision making, and contributing to the effective practices of organizations and society. The department makes use of state-of–the-art research facilities (multi-use lab spaces, online data collection, mobile computing, psychophysiological and neurocognitive equipment) and has a dedicated research support staff (lab assistants, programming and technical support).


  • Research (ca 75%): We are looking for candidates with a proven track record in using physiological measures such as eye-tracking and/or thermo imaging and the ability to program in relevant computer languages (such as Python or Matlab,) to integrate the various software currently used to assess social decision making (e.g. qualtrics, otree).
  • Teaching/Service (ca 25%): we expect you to contribute to academic citizenship (e.g., regular office hours, participate in weekly lab meetings, colloquia) and contribute to the education of students of the department.


Recently the department has expanded its investment into physiological research; the department lab currently has two thermo imaging cameras and two eye-trackers. The goal is to establish a lab that would allow for non-invasive measurements of physiology during social decision-making. We seek a postdoc candidate to facilitate the development of this non-invasive lab and to ground physiological measurements into existing research on belonging, ostracism, coalition formation, trust, and deception. You will be working with prof. dr. Ilja van Beest. Applicants should have recently completed a PhD in social psychology or related discipline.

Initially the appointment will be on a temporary basis for the period of 1 year. After a positive first year evaluation the contract will be prolonged for 3 years.

The salary for the position of post doc on a full-time basis ranges between € 3475,- and € 4757,- per month (not including various allowances). Employees from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. Tilburg University is an equal opportunity employer.
