The Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC) is a Center of Excellence at Tilburg University, the biggest of its kind in Europe, delivering first-rate interdisciplinary research on the governance of economic activity. TILEC is a vibrant research center created jointly by the Tilburg Law School (TLS) and the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM) in 2003 and now gathering some 40 committed members from the two schools. Over time, TILEC’s research has been sponsored by Dutch regulatory authorities, the European Commission, think tanks and major international companies. Professor Ronald Coase (1910-2013), the late Nobel Memorial Prize Laureate in Economic Sciences (1991), honored TILEC in 2008 by giving his consent to the establishment of a chair in Law and Economics named after him at Tilburg University. In the period 2012-2017, TILEC’s work has focused on the execution of its research program, evolving around 6 cluster areas: institutions and incentives; competition policy; innovation; health care markets regulation; regulation of network industries; and finance, trade and investment. The current research interests of TILEC members include the interlinkages between institutions, innovation, competition and regulation.
