Conditions

The Philosophy Department at Tilburg University seeks to appoint three philosophers at the level of teacher (Dutch: Docent Filosofie). All three positions include teaching (70-75 %) and teaching-related research responsibilities (18 %) as well as management or academic citizenship tasks (7-12 %). Teaching responsibilities include coordination of 4-6 courses per year (2-3 per semester) at both the Bachelor and Master levels. An important portion of these tasks involves teaching philosophy to (often) large classes of non-philosophy students at Bachelor level.

If not already acquired, successful candidates are expected to acquire a University Teaching Qualification (BKO). Tilburg University offers courses for acquiring this certification.

The positions will be ranked in the Dutch university job ranking system (UFO) as teacher (“docent 3”). The starting gross salary for a full-time appointment is (minimally) € 3.746,- up to (maximally) €5.127,- per month (max € 71.552,- all in per year). The start of the employment is negotiable, preferably 1 October, 2021. Successful candidates receive a contract for three years. There is some flexibility regarding the number of FTE (between 0.5 and 1.0) that can be assigned per position. The number of FTE can be adjusted in light of the successful candidates' preferences. Due to the binding collective labor agreement, the possibilities to extend the contract after this time are (very) limited.
