The successful EngD candidate will work in a position financed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency’s LIFE programme to design at full-scale, an integrated water treatment, storage, and disinfection solution for stormwater that meets quality standards for large volume, close-contact non-potable application in the urban context. Water recovered through city block-scale storage and recovery schemes will be post-treated to remove pathogens using state of the art disinfection technology and made available in the city centers of two European cities to support architectural adaptations for urban green within the built environment. The position is embedded within the research project GreenLED Rainwater Reuse, having the Delft Startup FieldFactors in the lead.
You will contribute to the development, design, and engineering of two circular water management installations which combine rainwater harvesting, biofiltration and aquifer storage with low energy-use, high efficiency disinfection technology to be implemented in public space.
You will work as part of a multi-partner consortium with various partners and stakeholders including companies, knowledge institutions, water regulators, urban planners and municipal partners.
Functie-eisen
- MSc in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related areas.
- Strong interest in water quality, water supply and/or water treatment technologies.
- Experience in laboratory testing, proven by previous studies and work.
- Independent, self-motivated, curiosity-driven mind, open to communicate and collaborate with peers and partners.
- A scientific attitude and analytical skills combined with a hands-on mentality.
- Excellent spoken and written English.

Would you like to deepen your technical competence, gain applied experience with a small team who is busy rolling out urban water solutions to make big impacts on water shortage and flooding challenges while taking your education to the next level with Doctor of Engineering (EngD) accreditation? The Civil Engineering and Geosciences Faculty of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) offers you a program where you will solve a practical, integrative and complex problem in cooperation with a company in the private sector. You study, on average, two days per week at the TU Delft, following dedicated courses, and apply your learning three days per week on the project in practice.
TU Delft offers EngD-candidates a 2-year contract, with an official go/no go progress assessment after one year.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, based on scale TOIO and equivalent to those of a doctoral candidate. In the first year, you'll receive a gross monthly salary of €2541, increasing to a maximum of €2960 in the second year.
