Are you an enthusiastic scientist with expertise in interdisciplinary research on issues of migrant inclusion, social inequalities and governance of migration-related diversity in relation to digitalisation? Then you have a part to play as a postdoctoral researcher in our university-wide RUNOMI network that strives for academic excellence and societal impact. 
The Radboud University Network on Migrant Inclusion (RUNOMI) was initiated at Radboud University in 2018 to strengthen university-wide, interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching as well as collaboration with societal actors. By now, the network connects more than 100 member scientists working at all RU faculties with expertise on migrant inclusion issues. The coming years, the university wishes to further develop this network into a leading international hub of expertise in this field, which is why it has initiated a large-scale staff recruitment initiative entailing 8 FTEs of assistant professors and 4.5 FTEs of postdoctoral fellows at various faculties. This vacancy forms part of this university-wide initiative, which focuses on the thematic intersection between migrant inclusion and digitalisation, with the two priority areas ’Communication, Information and Social Inequality’ and ’Well-being and Health’. As a new staff member you will be employed at the department of Geography, Planning and Environment and will contribute to the research and possibly teaching programme of the department as well as to the RUNOMI initiative.

As part of this university-wide staff recruitment initiative, the department of Geography, Planning and Environment (GPE) at the Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is looking for 3 FTEs of postdoctoral researchers to strengthen its expertise in relation to the following positions:

Postdoctoral researcher: Digital pathways to good migranthood in Western Europe.
Postdoctoral researcher: Artificial intelligence and discrimination risks in the context of immigration (collaboration with iHub).
Postdoctoral researcher: Digital Nomads - the future of remote working migrants (collaboration with Centre for Migration Law).

Functie-eisen

  • You have a PhD degree in a relevant social sciences area or you can demonstrate that your manuscript is near to completion.
  • You have expertise in interdisciplinary research in the field of social sciences relating to issues of migrant inclusion, social inequalities and/or governance of migration-related diversity, and you are interested in contributing to a new research and teaching programme studying these issues in relation to digitalisation.
  • You have a pipeline of scientific publications in internationally recognised high-quality journals; publications in non-academic journals and other science communication channels targeted at non-scientific audiences are an advantage.
  • You have a track record in attracting research funding, or the desire and ambition to do so.
  • Some teaching experience and proven effective teaching skills are an advantage.
  • As engaged committed scholar, you have an elaborate international network including academic partners as well as societal stakeholders.
  • You have a proactive attitude, you are flexible and development-oriented.
  • You have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with others.
  • You have excellent English and Dutch language skills and/or are willing to learn Dutch.

The Nijmegen School of Management enables students, institutions and companies, societal actors and governments to play their part in a transformation towards sustainable societies. In the context of our ‘Responsible governance for sustainable societies’ mission, we address scientific and societal challenges from a good governance perspective. Our work focuses on the topics Beyond Economy, Climate, Inclusivity, Safety, and Democracy. By building, questioning and extending the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), we acknowledge their interrelatedness and focus on a number of grand challenges within society. On topics such as inequality, gender, decent work and poverty, we contribute to innovation and sustainable growth. Furthermore, we address environmental and climate challenges, seeking to contribute towards resolving them.

At the Nijmegen School of Management, academic research and teaching are carried out in challenging educational programmes. These programmes are offered in the areas of Business Administration; Economics and Business Economics; Geography, Planning and Environment; Political Science; and Public Administration. Academic research takes place within the Institute for Management Research (IMR). Research is carried out within the above- mentioned domains and in interdisciplinary research groups: the Hotspots. The Nijmegen School of Management has 350 FTE staff and around 5,000 students.

The department of GPE offers a Bachelor’s programme and pre-Master’s and Master’s programmes in Human Geography, Spatial Planning, and Environment and Society Studies. Its research seeks to provide deep understandings of how places, from the local to global level, are politically and materially shaped, experienced and governed, and to contribute to the development of more sustainable and equitable places. GPE’s approach goes explicitly beyond a government and policy orientation, addressing the deep political and institutional nature of place-making and spatial-environmental governance. The group seeks to contribute to more future-oriented practices and territorial images. We have three core themes: Bordering and Migration; Climate and energy, biodiversity and water; and Urban/place development and mobility.

Given the paramount importance of ongoing societal challenges related to migrant inclusion issues and the major contribution that interdisciplinary scientific knowledge can make, a substantive group of more than 100 scholars working at Radboud University has stepped up to intensify collaboration in research, teaching and partnerships with societal actors in the domain of migrant inclusion studies. RUNOMI activities are focusing on three domains related to migrant inclusion: economic inclusion, social inclusion, and migrant access to public services, healthcare and housing.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €5,439 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 2 years.
  • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services.   • Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.
