In a challenging career trajectory you are, as Assistant Professor in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance applied to (food) soft matter, responsible for setting up a new research team comprising PhD students, technicians and post-docs. Soft matter properties of foods will be studied under dynamic conditions by means of nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, both in spectroscopic and imaging mode. With your research you will build a leading international position in which you will contribute to: (i) Development of advanced nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and imaging (MRI) methods, including, but not limited to, pulsed-field gradient NMR diffusometry, (rheo)MRI, multi-dimensional relaxometry/diffusometry and high-resolution magic angle spinning (HRMAS) spectroscopy; (ii) Building understanding of (food) soft matter physics; (iii) collaborating with research groups aiming at structure-driven design of food formulations and processing routes. Your activities include acquisition of grants to sustain your vision, implementing research projects, and coordination of all activities related to this field. As part of this position, you will inspire students by teaching, developing new course materials, and guiding thesis projects, together with your colleagues in the Laboratory of Biophysics. Training and coaching is provided for the Assistant Professor to accomplish all this.

As Assistant Professor you are an ambitious and enthusiastic team player, devoted to research and education in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. Your research will focus on structure-property relationships for (food) soft matter. Candidates should have a PhD degree in Chemistry or Physics. You are adept at working in a multicultural organisation. Proficiency in English is a requirement. Good writing skills, good oral communication skills, the willingness to explore new fields in collaboration with others, are all essential competences. International experience, some experience in project management and acquisition of research funding are appreciated.

The Laboratory of Biophysics (BIP) engages in research of the physical aspects of life processes and teaching of the fundamentals of physics and biophysics and their application in the life sciences. The research of BIP relies on both optical and magnetic resonance techniques. Your mission is to develop the area of magnetic resonance techniques applied to soft matter (food) physics.
