We are looking for a talented scientist in the field of light microscopy/spectroscopy with a passion for science and education, to become Assistant Professor in the Laboratory of Biophysics (http://www.bip.wur.nl/UK/).
As the chosen candidate, you will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of new research activities in biophysics, while working your way up to a leading international position. The focus of your research will be on the development and/or application of light microscopy and spectroscopic methods, preferably applicable to the study of photosynthetic processes. Being an integral member of the faculty, you will also be responsible for teaching and motivating students, as well as developing new courses.
As a specialist in microscopy/spectroscopy, you will be helping to further advance the work of our MicroSpectroscopy Research Facility, which is at the forefront of multiple cutting-edge setups and techniques, including TIRF single molecule setups, FLIM confocal microscopy, and ultrafast fluorescence spectroscopy. (Please visit our website for a complete overview of the facility). Please note that you will be expected to attract funding to enable your research.
You are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education in the field of (bio)physics and (micro)spectroscopy. You hold a PhD degree in (bio)physics, physical chemistry or a related field. You are adept at working in a multicultural organisation. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and orally, and the willingness to explore new fields in collaboration with others, are essential, while international experience (particularly experience in project management and acquisition of research funding) is appreciated. Being able to demonstrate understanding and a proven interest in the research field of photosynthesis is a further advantage.
- Minimum three years of postdoctoral experience.
- Strong publication and academic record relevant to the field.
- Proven didactic abilities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students.
- The ambition to ultimately graduate to full professor within a Tenure Track system.
ConditionsWe offer you a challenging career trajectory called Tenure Track. This challenging career path starts at the level of assistant professor, from which you can grow into an associate professor and with the possibility to become a personal professor. During the trajectory you will be intensively supervised and coached. A development programme, especially developed for WUR is included. By participating in this programme, you are taking the initiative to work on your personal and professional development. The programme focuses on the competencies required for the next step in your career and helps in your personal development in areas that are crucial to your scientific as well as your educational qualities. It also supports the fulfilment of your own ambitions. For more information about Tenure Track within Wageningen University & Research please follow this link: https://www.wur.nl/en/Jobs/Why-choose-WUR/Your-development-in-focus/Tenure-Track.htm
You will also be able to develop your own line of research; our lab provides access to a wide range of optical equipment (see links above), as well as excellent support in (opto-)electronics, spectroscopy, and (bio)chemistry. All training is provided, of course.
For the Assistant-Professor level we offer a salary based on your expertise and experience between € 3.637,- and € 5.656,- gross per month (scale 11 or 12 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). We offer a temporary contract which can finally lead to permanent position.
In addition, we offer:
- 8% holiday allowance
- a structural year-end bonus of 8.3%
- excellent training opportunities
- flexible working hours and holidays can possibly be determined in consultation so that an optimal balance between work and private life is possible
- excellent pension plan through ABP
- 232 vacation hours, the option to purchase extra and good supplementary leave schemes
- a flexible working time: the possibility to work a maximum of 2 hours per week extra and thereby to build up extra leave
- a choice model to put together part of your employment conditions yourself, such as a bicycle plan
- a lively workplace where you can easily make contacts and where many activities take place on the Wageningen Campus.
Wageningen University & Research stimulates internal career opportunities and mobility with an internal recruitment policy. There are ample opportunities for own initiative in a learning environment.
