Are you the promising aquaculture researcher who will support public and private policy makers with respect to the international position of aquaculture for food systems of deltas whilst balancing economic, social and ecological impacts?

We are looking for a talented colleague with a market- and customer-oriented attitude and a great affinity for applied economic research. Experience in conducting research projects involving the position of aquaculture for sustainable food security or willingness to eagerly learn this expertise is a must. You should also have the ambition to lead and develop projects in the field of marine economy. Your most important activities in doing so will be:
  • Conducting research activities, including international projects, with an emphasis on the economic part of aquaculture and blue growth. Also other topics regarding marine governance, marine spatial planning or sustainable development of marine environments can be part of your portfolio.
  • Working in project teams that vary in size and complexity. These may vary from a few colleagues at Wageningen Economic Research to larger teams consisting of researchers from different organisations. An example of this would be other organisational divisions such as Wageningen Marine Research, but also international consortia.
  • Maintaining regular contact with your clients, whereby you proactively and sufficiently adapt to their wishes and needs. Clients include the Ministries of LNV and I&W, international organisations and business, and the European Commission (incl. DG MARE).
  • Contributing to the acquisition of new research projects, using your active network in aquaculture as well as actively contributing to knowledge development and method/product innovation.
We have seven expertise groups at Wageningen Economic Research. You will be working in the expertise group Green Economy and Land Use. This expertise group is focused on a national and international market of governments, NGOs and business with research advice. The group works on the economic perspective and sustainable development of green and blue growth via integral explorations, cost-benefit analyses, evaluation methods, and business models.
Place of employment is The Hague or Wageningen, with willingness to regularly travel to the other location.

You have:

  • completed a MSc in economics, preferably with a focus on marine economy, plus 1 to 5 years of research experience;
  • highly developed analytical skills and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • a client-driven interest in applying economic research in public and private domains;
  • having or having interest in building a network in aquaculture;
  • the ability and experience to work as a team-player in international, multidisciplinary teams in complex project environments;
  • the capacity to communicate and collaborate engagingly, as well as spoken and written communication skills in English and Dutch (or the willingness to learn Dutch);
  • Interest in publishing research results in reports and peer-reviewed journals.

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed December bonus of 4%;
  • excellent pension scheme.
In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of maximum €5.268,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10-11).
